Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows barely slipped out of PopcornMonster.com’s Top 10 Movies to See This Summer list, but it is nevertheless still on my radar. Today, Apple has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for the film, featuring segments on the history of vampire films, as well as Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s love for the genre. It even gives us a peek at the cameos of Christopher Lee and the late Jonathan Frid (the original Barnabas Collins) in the film. Hit the jump to watch!

Any die-hard movie geek is quite familiar with Hero Complex, essentially the “fanboy” section of the LA Times that covers movies, TV shows, comic books, and more. Today, they have taken the next step in covering all things geek with the debut of their new YouTube program, Hero Complex: The Show.
In the debut episode, LA Times writer Geoff Boucher sits down with Prometheus director, Ridley Scott for quite an enlightening interview, featuring discussions of storyboarding and the plot of Prometheus. I don’t think I am the first person to say that it kind of feels like the summer blockbuster season has already arrived. Last month, The Hunger Games was released, and it immediately became a similar phenomenon to the best-selling book it is based on, staying #1 at the box office four weekends in a row and making ridiculous amounts of cash. John Carter also debuted in March, and, while it performed rather poorly at box office (due to an incredibly dim-witted marketing campaign), it was still a film that possessed the scale of an epic sci-fi summer blockbuster in terms of its visuals, action, and storytelling.
Nevertheless, the summer movie season has yet to begin, and we can be sure that we still have plenty of geek-tastic movies to look forward to during the hot weather. Legendary superheroes, gun-blasting mercenaries, a vampire-hunting U.S. President, alien worlds and more are all taking over the silver screen in the next few months, so believe me when I say that this is one blockbuster season you do not want to skip out on. Hit the jump to see what made this year’s Top 10 Movies to See This Summer!

Everyone I talk to about the Total Recall remake just cannot picture it without Arnold Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid, therefore automatically coming to the conclusion that a remake is just a bad idea altogether. But if one revisits the original classic 1990 film, it is undeniably dated (although it is still great fun to watch). In addition, the famous short story by Phillip K. Dick that the film was based on, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, isn’t dependent on a ridiculously muscular hero in the lead. It is possible that the story could benefit from a more modern retelling in movie form. The story will simply stand on its own if the film is cast properly and the new adaptation is well written.
Today, the first full trailer for director Len Wiseman’s retelling of Total Recall has hit the web over at Apple, and it definitely sells the film quite well, showcasing the story, some great futuristic settings, and intense action sequences. The film stars Colin Farrell as Quaid, and co-stars Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston and Bill Nighy. It hit theaters everywhere August 3rd. Hit the jump to watch the trailer!

Fans of The X-Files TV series and movies know that a third film has been talked about ever since The X-Files: I Want to Believe came and went in 2008, despite the second film not performing as well at the box office as 20th Century Fox had hoped it would. Various members of The X-Files cast and crew have expressed a strong desire to make a third movie, including actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, as well as creator Chris Carter and producer Frank Spotnitz. While some were let down by the last film, most X-Philes still want that third movie that would deal with alien colonization in 2012 – a subject that was arguably the biggest plot point of the entire series that never really got resolved because, well, it wasn’t the year 2012 when the series ended.
But, now that 2012 is here, and the Mayan calendar is coming to an end on December 21st, fans of the series have been questioning whether or not a third movie is even possible this year. In response, Spotnitz addressed the issue in a blog post today over at his Big Light website (I like to think my recent message I sent Spotnitz compelled him to write it… wink, wink). Read on to see what he had to say regarding the possibility of a third X-Files film being released this year!

Last year, for some random reason, Norton released a behind-the-scenes featurette to promote Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger film. While it was sort of an annoying product placement ad, it was a pretty good featurette documenting the beloved superhero.
Today, in order to “assemble the ultimate protection” (get it?), Norton goes behind the scenes of Marvel’s The Avengers in a brand new featurette that talks about the lead up to the film over the last few years. It doesn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know, but we do get treated to a tiny bit of new footage, and anything new to see from the most anticipated movie from Marvel is a treat. Hit the jump to watch!
