Qui-Gon Jinn

No, Liam Neeson is not shooting new footage to be reedited into the Star Wars movies for the Blu-ray release (as far as we know). However, he will be officially returning to the same universe to voice Jedi Master “Qui-Gon Jinn” in Cartoon Networks’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series! Hit the jump for more!

In a three-part story arc about Anakin Skywalker’s destiny as the Chose One, Qui-Gon Jinn appears to Obi-Wan Kenobi in visions in the first and third episodes of the story, according to Entertainment Weekly. The first episode will air on Cartoon Network on January 28th.

Some have questioned whether or not Qui-Gon’s appearance will contradict Yoda’s exchange with Obi-Wan at the end of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith:

Yoda: Master Kenobi, wait a moment. In your solitude on Tatooine, training I have for you.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Training?
Yoda: An old friend has learned the path to immortality. One who has returned from the netherworld of the Force. Your old master.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Qui-Gon?
Yoda: How to commune with him I will teach you.

Since The Clone Wars series takes place before Revenge of the Sith, it seems, on the surface, a bit contradictory that Qui-Gon appeared to Obi-Wan before he and Yoda had this conversation. But the truth is, we just don’t know how this will all fit into what has already been established in the films.

Perhaps Obi-Wan is simply surprised that Qui-Gon had also been communicating with Yoda from beyond the grave? Or maybe he just initially doubted his visions? Who knows? We’ll definitely find out more in the next few weeks!

Head on over to Entertainment Weekly to watch an exclusive video clip of Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, complete with the voice of Liam Neeson!
