Well, a few weeks ago, Lance Henriksen (“Frank Black” on Millennium) broke the news that independent investors have approached him about possibly making a film based on the short-lived Millennium TV series. Well, apparently ScreenRant has more details/rumors on the matter, including a possible director!

Basically, the rights to Millennium belong to 20th Century Fox. So these “independent producers” would have to somehow obtain the rights to make a Millennium film, or work in association with 20th Century Fox to produce the movie. Rumor has it that it is possible series creator Chris Carter may not even be involved, and that an independent director by the name of Brett A. Hart may direct the movie if it gets the green light.

Hart worked with Henriksen on a film called Bone Dry, and is also a big fan of Millennium. Here’s what he had to say about the matter:

“As a tremendous admirer of “The Millennium Series” I’m of course very intrigued by the recent rumors that there may indeed be a full length feature on the horizon. If any one can get “Millennium” made its Lance and it’s been a long time coming. It’s time to give the fans what they’ve been patiently waiting to see… More insight into the aberrant world of Frank Black… while further elevating and merging storylines, characterization and visuals… and finally closure for one of the finest series ever created. Let’s hope as the title sequence suggest “The Time is near”… and As I’ve already publicly stated… my passion and conviction for the series is so deep that I’d direct “Millennium – The Movie” for free just to see it on the big screen.”

I think it is a cool idea to make this movie, although I am not sure how well it would do at the box office. It just does not scream “instant hit,” to me. I liked the show, and I hope that if a film gets made that it will provide the closure that the series never got. But it has been so long since the series ended so I am not sure if the appetite for a Millennium film is there from the general movie-going public. I know I’d be there opening night, but that won’t be enough to make a profit.

I suppose if it is not marketed as a Summer blockbuster or Christmas season movie, and perhaps opens in January or Februrary when nothing else is out, it might do well. And hey, if they can make this movie, then surely the third X-Files film can happen too!

Lastly, just to clarify, BackToFrankBlack.com wishes to let everyone know that the above information from ScreenRant is completely rumor at this point, except for the part about Henriksen being approached about making the movie, and the above quote from Brett A. Hart.
