We all know Sam Raimi is hard at work directing Spider-Man 4. But will he direct the next two Spidey movies that are in development? Read on to hear what he had to say to MTV on the matter.

“Every time I make one of the ‘Spider-Man’ movies, I have to ask myself, is the character still intriguing to me? Do I love the character? Am I dying to tell the next story of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?”

“And so far the answer has been yes.”

“If I can’t reach that level of commitment and excitement, I think then there’d be somebody else better to do justice to the story.”

There is no official word on if he will do the next two Spidey movies, but I think we have enough reason to suspect that he probably will not continue after Spider-Man 4 – even if he does want to.

Probably the biggest reason for him not to continue with the franchise is that he has so much lined up in his schedule. Right now, he is directing Spider-Man 4, then he is onto directing the World of Warcraft movie. He is also executive producer on the Spartacus TV series for the Starz channel, and producer for the films Priest and The Dibbuk Box. Of course, everyone wants him to get going on the long-awaited Evil Dead 4, which he has already begun brainstorming ideas for. So the possibility of him working on two more Spider-Man films does not look very likely – at least not any time soon.

Personally, while this is just mere speculation, I think that one of the only reasons Sam Raimi is making Spider-Man 4 is because he feels bad about what happened with the last Spider-Man film and wants to have another shot at making at least one more great Spider-Man flick to make up for it. He loves the character and wants to do him justice. Granted, it wasn’t entirely his fault the last one did not go so well, as he was pressured to include Venom when he never wanted the Venom character in Spider-Man 3 in the first place. However, he was still the director so he probably feels somewhat responsible for the way the last film went. If Spidey 4 goes well, it would not surprise me if he calls it quits while he’s on top again.

I just want him to make Evil Dead 4. After that, he can do whatever he wants. 🙂
