Picture 2

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, written by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Troy Nixey, is arriving in theaters tomorrow to help kick-start the typical fall horror season a bit early. The film, starring Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes, has been getting some positive buzz, with people saying it is one of the scariest movies to be made in quite a while (Update: I saw the film on opening day and, while it’s creepy at certain points in the film, I personally did not find it to be all that scary).

But what people may not know is that the film is based on a TV movie from 1973 with the same title starring Kim Darby and Jim Hutton, which has been recently remastered for DVD. FEARnet has posted a clip from the original film (via Warner Brothers) called “Scare Her” and, just from watching this clip alone, I can definitely see why Guillermo del Toro says it is the scariest TV movie he has ever seen. Hit the jump to check it out!

Rob Zombie_sm

While I never really cared for Rob Zombie‘s music, and had no real interest in seeing his movies (although, what I have seen of his remake of Halloween seemed quite good) – he has always been an interesting, and sometimes funny person to listen to, no matter what he may be talking about.

Which is why you should tune in on August 22nd to Post Mortem with Mick Garris on FEARnet.com and On Demand (VOD) for a five-part interview with Rob Zombie where he talks about everything from his music, his movies, and even how he would love to make a Western someday (yes, a Western). The show will also premiere on FEARnet‘s cable channel on August 27th. Hit the jump for the official press release, photos, and a preview clip of the interview!

Trick r Treat

Recently, FEARnet has been releasing various holiday-themed videos featuring the character of “Sam” from Michael Dougherty‘s horror anthology film Trick ‘r Treat to promote their “24 Hours of Trick ‘r Treat” event occurring this Halloween on FEARnet HD. They started out with the hilarious (and disturbing) “Half Way to Halloween” Easter video a couple of months ago, and now they have debuted a new twisted, yet sweet Father’s Day vignette to hype up the event. The video is executive produced by Michael Dougherty and directed by Zach Shields, and you can watch it after the jump!

Trick 'r Treat

FEARnet has posted a great video just in time for Easter – celebrating the fact that it is half way to Halloween, of course.

Kicking off the countdown to their “24-hours of Trick ‘r Treat” event, this video features the character of Sam from the much-beloved Michael Dougherty horror anthology film playing a cruel, but hilarious Easter prank on a random, “squeaky-clean” family. Fans of the film will definitely need to check it out – only make sure you’re not eating anything while watching it…

William Friedkin_Garris_crop

One of the most frightening films I have ever seen (maybe the most frightening) is The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin. In fact, as unbelievable as it sounds, I just watched the film in its entirety for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It took me that long to finally have enough guts to sit down and watch it.

Coincidentally, filmmaker Mick Garris recently sat down with Friedkin to discuss his career in filmmaking on Post-Mortem with Mick Garris. The five-part interview will air on FEARnet starting March 14th, as well as Verizon FiOS starting March 19th and On Demand (VOD) as of March 21st. Believe me when I say that this is one interview you do not want to miss! Hit the jump for the official press release, hi-res photos and an exclusive video clip from the interview!

Garris_Carpenter_sm

Award-winning filmmaker Mick Garris, host of FEARnet‘s signature series Post-Mortem with Mick Garris, has conducted many interviews with horror film legends on the show, including Roger Corman (which we featured here), Robert Englund and Frank Darabont.

More recently, Garris sat down with Halloween creator John Carpenter to discuss his career. While this five-part interview does not debut on FEARnet until Monday, February 28th (and also Verizon FiOS cable channel 197 starting March 4th and On Demand March 7th), FEARnet was kind enough to send us the official press release as well as photos and an exclusive preview clip of the interview. Hit the jump to check them out!

Roger Corman_Mick Garris

Most B-movie fans are fully aware of the works of legendary filmmaker Roger Corman, particularly his American International Edgar Allen Poe adaptations with Vincent Price like House of Usher and Pit and the Pendulum. Others might know him more as the producer of such films as Piranha (1978) or Death Race. Regardless of how you know of the fellow, it is clear that he knows he way around the B-genre.

So, if you’re like me and you love just listening to Corman talk, you need to check out this five-part interview on FEARnet’s Post Mortem with Mick Garris, which debuted August 2nd. It will also premiere on Video on Demand (VOD) August 9th. A wide variety of interesting topics is covered in the interview so I highly recommend it for genre fans. Check out the official press release after the jump!
