It seems like only yesterday that PopcornMonster.com was created. I never would have thought it would still be around a decade later, but here we are!

Batman Returns

For kids of the 1970s and early 80s, Star Wars was the big blockbuster movie experience, and rightly so. Nothing was bigger. For me personally, while I technically saw Return of the Jedi in the theater when I was three, I don’t really remember much from that day. I highly enjoyed the films growing up, and even had a few of the action figures, an R2-D2 toy toter, and the original three films on VHS. But I never truly experienced seeing the Star Wars films in the theater until the Special Editions were released in 1997.

It was really the first Batman from 1989 that was my first big blockbuster theatrical experience. Aside from Superman: The Movie (1978), the comic book genre had really disappeared into oblivion with the abysmal sequels in the 1980s. So when Tim Burton’s Batman came along, it was the biggest craze since the Pet Rock, and put comic book movies back on the map. As a kid, nothing was more cool than that film. NOTHING.

The summer blockbuster season seems to have already started with Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier (which was amazing, by the way), but we still have a steady diet of highly-anticipated movies heading our way to feed every geek craving that nags at us all the way through August. Summer is just around the corner, at least when it comes to movies, just waiting for all of us to hang out with mutants, apes, giant monsters… well, just so long as it is behind the safety of the silver screen. It appears 2015 will be slightly less crowded as far as tent-pole movie releases go. Warner Brothers has just announced that the release date for Zack Snyder’s followup to 2013’s Man of Steel, tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman, has been pushed back from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016. Read on for more!

After weeks of speculation and rumors floating around the web, Warner Brothers has come out of nowhere and officially announced that none other than Ben Affleck will take on the role of Batman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, tentatively titled either Batman vs. Superman, or Superman vs. Batman (I tend to prefer the latter, since a Superman sequel would seem to imply that his name should come first in the title). Read on for the official press release from Warner Brothers!

It was only a matter of time.

Man of Steel, while not received that well critically, it did made a ton of money worldwide. Based on this, we knew a sequel would happen, and today it was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con, although it was not necessarily what people were expecting.

The sequel to Man of Steel will team up Superman with The Dark Knight himself – Batman. As of right now, Zack Snyder will once again direct the sequel, co-writing with David S. Goyer, and the main cast of Man of Steel is set to return, including Henry Cavill as Superman. Batman, however, has not yet been cast, and the following press release confirms that he will be a “new Batman” and a more “fresh” take on the character, supporting previous speculation that they are indeed trying to reboot the character once again (Christian Bale’s recent comments also support this).

But this is not the only news. Even though the following press release deals only with the new Superman/Batman film, Heat Vision is reporting that a film based on DC’s The Flash is also in the works for 2016, followed by the long-gestating Justice League film in 2017. No official details as of yet for these films, but you can read the press release for the Man of Steel sequel (World’s Finest, anyone?) after the jump!

For X-Philes who have been waiting patiently to see what happens after The X-Files: I Want to Believe, they will be getting the next best thing to a third feature film very soon.

IDW, the company behind 2009’s incredibly awesome X-Files/30 Days of Night crossover comic series (co-published by DC/Wildstorm), has announced that they are creating a whole new line of comics for The X-Files, picking up right where I Want to Believe left off. Not only that, but the company is also reprinting the classic Topps and DC/Wildstorm X-Files comics that ran sporadically from 1995-2009. Read on for official statements from IDW and Fox staff members.

Warner Brothers has released the first full trailer for director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, and it really gives us our first real glimpse into the look and feel of the film, far beyond what we saw in the teaser.

The first half of the trailer focuses more on whether or not mankind will accept someone with God-like powers, a theme that was similarly explored in the X-Men franchise. The second half, of course, shows off some great action scenes, which is essential in selling a Superman film. All in all, it’s a fantastic look into the return of the Caped Kryptonian. After winning a legal battle against the heirs of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, Warner Brothers is now able to proceed with making a Justice League film, which is now being pushed for a Summer 2015 release. Much like Marvel’s The AvengersJustice League will team up famous comic book heroes to battle evil, but from the DC Comics universe, with Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman being among the group. More on this story after the jump!

Part 1 of DC Comics’ animated adaptation of Frank Miller’s classic graphic novel, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, only just arrived in stores everywhere a couple of weeks ago, and already we are getting the first trailer for Part 2, which is expected to arrive some time in the first quarter of 2013.

The trailer shows off a bit of Superman and Joker, voiced by Mark Valley and Michael Emerson, respectfully, and really gets into the action this time around. For those of you who enjoyed Part 1, hold onto your hats because it looks like the story and action are being taken up a few notches in Batman: The Dark Knight Return, Part 2, if this new trailer is any indication. Hit the jump to watch!
