Frankenstein Monster

Everyone in Hollywood seems to be jumping on the Frankenstein bandwagon these days. All sorts of projects are currently being developed that are based on or inspired by Mary Shelley’s classic monster tale. Not only has Guillermo del Toro expressed for quite some time that he wants to re-imaginine the story for film, but there are also two prequels in the works (Timur Bekmambetov‘s The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein and Matt ReevesThis Dark Endeavor), an adaptation of Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein: Prodigal Son, and Lakeshore’s film noir take on the Monster called I, Frankenstein. Of course, let’s not forget Tim Burton‘s stop-motion feature Frankenweenie that is currently in production, as well as an as-of-yet untitled adaptation of Frankenstein from 20th Century Fox. People just can’t get enough of the monster, and honestly, I don’t blame them, since I am a HUGE fan myself and will probably watch anything with “Frankenstein” in the title.

But is it all too much? NBC doesn’t seem to think so, as they are also currently planning an adaptation of Frankenstein for TV. Russel Friend and Garret Lerner (House, Smallville) have been hired to write a pilot script for a series that takes the story to a present-day setting. No further details have been revealed. It’ll sure be interesting to see it alongside all the rest of the Frankenstein stories being developed. But, while it is definitely a great time for Frankenstein’s Monster to reemerge, I just hope people don’t get worn out on it. Stay tuned as more details develop!

Catwoman_Selena-Kyle

Ever since the first official photo of Anne Hathaway‘s Catwoman costume for The Dark Knight Rises was posted online, fans everywhere had to chime in with their take on it. Some loved it, while others dismissed it as terrible. I believe I read an opinion somewhere describing it as looking like something out of Stephen SommersG.I. Joe film.

In particular, MTV had sort of a “meh” opinion on the costume, basically indicating they weren’t all that impressed. So when Anne Hathaway sat down with MTV in a recent interview, she made sure to let everyone know why the costume is going to be cool and that MTV‘s “meh” was premature. Hit the jump to watch a brief clip of the interview where she addresses fan reactions!

Superheroes_cropped

Anyone who has read comic books or loves superhero movies has thought about what it would be like to actually disguise oneself and take on a superhero persona to go out and fight crime. Most of us probably pretended to do so when we were kids (I, for one, always wanted to be Batman). Well, believe it or not, there are actually real-life “superheroes” out there who literally wear a mask or some sort of disguise to cover up their identities in order to perform heroic deeds (some actually don’t disguise themselves). Whether it’d be assisting in community service needs such as helping the homeless, or actually combating crime (either by alerting the proper authorities or fighting criminals on their own), these people actually exist.

While they aren’t exactly Batman or Spider-Man, and perhaps have delusions of grandeur, they have set out to help the world with the best intentions. HBO‘s newest documentary, appropriately titled Superheroes (premiering Monday, August 8th at 9PM), dives into the motivations of these people who feel compelled to take the law into their own hands. It features interviews with many of the so-called superheroes, as well as other commentators who give their take on the subject, including Marvel’s own Stan Lee. It really looks like it’ll be quite an amazing documentary to say the least. You can check out the official trailer, press release, photos, and an interview with Superheroes director Michael Barnett after the jump!

Campbell_Oz

Anyone who has followed actor Bruce Campbell‘s career knows that he has been best buds with film director Sam Raimi since before most of us who read online movie blogs were born. He became famous for playing Ash in Raimi‘s Evil Dead Trilogy, and from there he has made appearances in many of Raimi‘s productions, including the Spider-Man trilogy. So it should come as no surprise whatsoever that Bruce Campbell has confirmed (via Twitter) that he will play a role in Raimi‘s upcoming Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz the Great and Powerful, which is currently filming in Michigan (Campbell and Raimi‘s home state). Read on to find out what Campbell had to say about the role!

Laurence Fishburne

Entertainment Weekly has learned that Laurence Fishburne has been cast as The Daily Planet’s editor-in-chief, Perry White for Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel.

Perry White has always been portrayed as the old-fashioned, “go-getter” type of newspaperman who relies heavily on Lois Lane and Clark Kent to bring him the best news for The Daily Planet. So, not only is it interesting that this is the first time an African-American is portraying the role, but this is also a very different character than we’re used to seeing Fishburne play. I love Fishburne as an actor, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table for the film!

Laurence Fishburne joins a stellar cast for Man of Steel that includes Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Julia Ormond, Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe. The film is slated to hit theaters nationwide June 14, 2013. Head on over to Entertainment Weekly for the rest of the article!

X-FIles FTF

Last March, Fox All Access claimed that discussions for a third X-Files film were indeed happening. While X-Philes everywhere wanted to believe, skepticism naturally took hold of some. Whether we believed FAA or not, fans were still looking for confirmation from X-Files creator Chris Carter or someone who would be in the know.

As it turns out, fans finally got an answer today at a charity event held by IBG Inc. (Inspire-Believe-Give) in Beverly Hills, CA where a Q&A session was held with X-Files actress Gillian Anderson and her former co-star David Duchovny, with Chris Carter arriving later to answer some questions as well. Hit the jump to check out what they had to say about The X-Files 3!

Red Tails

George Lucas‘ film Red Tails has actually been in development over the course of 20 years. Now, after all this time, we finally have a trailer for the film! Directed by first time filmmaker Anthony Hemingway and produced by George Lucas, Red Tails chronicles the story of the Tuskegee Airmen – the first African-American fighter pilots to fly in a combat squad during World War II.

This is the first film from George Lucas in a while that isn’t Star Wars or Indiana Jones, and it looks really cool to say the least. Some pretty high-profile stars are in the picture, including Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Bryan Cranston. It hits theaters nationwide January 20 2012, but you can check out the official trailer after the jump right now!
