X-Files FTF_01

Ever since FOX All Access carried the story that a script for The X-Files 3 may be in the works and never shot it down (even though David Duchovny did), X-Philes from all over have been posting messages on their Facebook page almost daily, asking to get the film made and showing that the fandom has clearly not died down at all.

In response, FOX All Access posted an update on Facebook indicating that discussions are indeed happening and that a script is in the works after all! Read on for the quote!

From FOX All Access on Facebook:

This is what we know as of now. Discussions for “XF3” are happening. Nobody will go on the record as of now. But as we told a few months ago David D, Gillian, and Chris Carter are on board and a script is in the works. This is good news! THE STUDIO HAS NOT SAID NO to “XF3″. Trust me that is even better news.

X-Files News also points out another recent FAA post that adds to the discussion:

Rumors have late 2012-2013 it depends on the budget keeping the cost of the film down XF2 made its money back and more worldwide and talks continue…keep up the fight for XF3.

So, even after many other websites shot down the rumors of a script, FOX All Access (20th Century Fox’s official blog) still stands by the story they carried months ago, or at least shoots down David Duchonvy’s remarks about it. Good news for X-Philes!

However, how would they approach the story if it is released in 2013? After all, The X-Files creator Chris Carter has stated that if a third film gets made, it would deal with the 2012 alien colonization plot talked about in the series.

Perhaps it would open with Fox Mulder narrating something like this: “The Mayans prophesied that the world would end on December 21, 2012. But 2012 came and went, and people continued about their daily lives as usual. Nevertheless, the prophecy was in fact true. This is the story of two unsung heroes – bound by their loyalty to each other, and to the truth – who stopped the end from happening.”

Cue The X-Files theme…

(Okay, maybe that might only work for the back of the DVD case?)
