star trek 2009

So here we are, approximately seven years since we have seen a new Star Trek movie. In 2002, Star Trek: Nemesis was released with a mediocre response from critics and fans alike (I personally thought it was decent, actually). It was considered a poor ending to the Next Generation series and was thought to have put the last nail in the coffin on the much beloved Star Trek franchise as a whole.

It seems like this film is getting a lot of crap from a lot of critics out there. Now, while I don’t feel like this is the greatest film it could have been, I really walked out of the theater surprised. I liked more than I thought I was going to. Maybe I’m just a little more easy-going when it comes to popcorn movies, but I really enjoyed it…

…well, at least half of it.

It Came From Outer Space!!! Along with movies like The Day the Earth Stood Still and War of the Worlds (the original films from the 50s), It Came From Outer Space was another one of R.W. Goodwin’s inspirations for his new movie Alien Trespass (currently in limited release).

This movie along with many other 50s sci-fi films appear cheesy by today’s standards, but were top quality back when they were released. The filmmakers of these movies took them seriously, which is how R.W. Goodwin (former X-Files episode director) approached Alien Trespass. He wanted the feel of those old movies, but not to come off like a spoof or remake.
