A much more action-oriented trailer for J.J. AbramsSuper 8 premiered at the MTV Movie Awards last night that focuses on the military’s response to whatever monster/creature/entity thingy gets loose in the small town in which the story takes place. The film hits theaters this Friday. Hit the jump to watch!

Official Plot Synopsis:

In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

While it certainly is an entertaining trailer, I don’t personally find it to be nearly as appealing as the first, more character-driven one that debuted in March. From what I understand of the film, the first trailer more accurately shows you what to expect from the movie, which is a coming of age type of story (reflective of the Amblin films of the 80s) merely set against the backdrop of a “monster on the loose” incident to tell the tale of a group of kids growing up in a small town. This isn’t an action movie per se, but this new trailer seems to sell it as such.

Super 8, directed by J.J. Abrams and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, hits theaters nationwide this Friday!
