We have yet to get an official announcement from Steven Spielberg or George Lucas, but the next best thing is to hear confirmation from Indiana Jones himself – Harrison Ford. According to Ford, the next chapter is well on its way!

According to People, Harrison Ford had this to say:

“The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form.” Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I’ll be very happy to put the costume on again.”

Karen Allen, who played Marion in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, also had some Indiana Jones 5 news to share. I wouldn’t call it official, since she only heard it through unofficial channels, but here’s the video of her panel at Dragon Con talking about when the next film is supposedly coming out:

The Indiana Jones fanbase seems to be divided on their opinions of the last installment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, while the majority (although not the vast majority) of critics seemed to like it. I, for one, really enjoyed the last installment. It had its issues, but overall it was a fun Indiana Jones adventure that I would personally rate as good, if not better than Temple of Doom.

I think that most Indy fans would love to see the man in the hat come back for one more adventure. I am just waiting for them to, once again, agree on a script. Harrison is not getting any younger, so lets crack the whip on that script and make it a good one!

My opinion is that it should take place a year or two before Crystal Skull, much like they did with Temple of Doom taking place the year before Raiders. While I enjoyed the family dynamic between Indy, Mutt and Marion, I would like to see Indy on his own with more of the focus on him. But I am guessing that this won’t be the case and they’ll have it take place after Crystal Skull. Either way, I hope they find a way to make Indy more cunning and not so much of a bystander like he was in the last film.
