Well, looks like fans of the TV series 24 will have to wait a while longer for the movie version. According to Entertainment Weekly, 20th Century Fox has passed on the first script, written by State of Play writer Billy Ray. Read on to find out what 24 series executive producer Howard Gordon had to say on the matter.

Gordon seems optimistic that the 24 movie will indeed happen, although it’ll be a while longer before it does:

“As far as I know, it is in suspended animation. There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand (director/producer) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it. I was disapppointed [Fox] passed on the script but I’m certainly hopeful that the movie will get made at some point. Anecdotally, I’ve heard from people who are really missing the show and I do think there is more life in Jack Bauer.”

If you recall, Kiefer Sutherland (who played the main character Jack Bauer on the series) told EW earlier last year that the feature film would pick up where the last season of the TV series ended and that it would, of course, not be limited to the restraints of the “real-time” method the series had. It would simply be a 2-hour representation of a 24-hour day.

Personally, I didn’t care for Billy Ray‘s State of Play, and the only other film I have seen of his was Flightplan, which I enjoyed on some level but it could have used a better script. Perhaps they should just bring on a better writer for the 24 movie?
