This is the first time when the news of Hammer Films making a comeback seems real to me. Fans of Hammer Film Studios and the films they made (particularly those made back in the ’50s and ’60s) have been paying close attention to the slow but steady reemergence of the studio, anxiously awaiting a new film. Now, Shock ‘Till You Drop has given us a sneak peek at the first new thriller from Hammer in over 30 years, entitled The Resident.

Click the photos below for the hi-res versions:

Shock ‘Till You Drop desribes The Resident as follows:

Directed and co-written by Antti J. Jokinen – who rolled cameras on the film earlier this year in New York – The Resident finds Hilary Swank playing a doctor who moves into a new tenement only to be stalked by her landlord (Morgan). Inevitably, his creep factor rises and a game of cat and mouse begins.

Sounds somewhat interesting, but this description in and of itself doesn’t really intrigue me all that much to be honest, and the photos do not reveal much either.. I kind of have to know a little more and see some more photos and a trailer.

However, what I do find interesting is the simple fact that Hammer Films is making its comeback with Christopher Lee! Modern film-goers will recognize Lee as the man who played “Saruman” in The Lord of the Rings films, and “Count Dooku” in the Star Wars prequels. But what put him on the map was playing iconic characters with Hammer in the ’50s-’70s like “Count Dracula.” This will be his first time working with Hammer Film Studios since 1976’s To the Devil a Daughter, and it is totally fitting to see him help bring the studio back to the big screen. I just hope the film is as good as the legacy of Hammer Films and Christopher Lee!

The Resident stars Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Christopher Lee and arrives in theaters next year. Head on over to HammerFilms.com to learn more about the legendary film studio.
