Shawn Levy

After seeing the first teaser trailer for Dreamworks’ Real Steel, I’m sure many out there are now quite curious about the film and what director Shawn Levy‘s vision is for it. Clearly the movie is quite different from the comedies and family-friendly films he has done in the past (Night at the Museum, Date Night, etc.), so his latest “robot boxing” movie has been slowly generating a lot of buzz.

Collider.com recently posted a highly insightful interview with the director, which sheds a lot of light on the direction the film is going and what Levy intends to accomplish with it. Check out some of the highlights below!

One of the things many grown up geeks ponder more than anything else geeky is, how do we get our kids to like the geeky things we like? This may sound odd to some, but even though I don’t have kids yet, I have often thought about how I will introduce them to things such as old-school monster movies, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, etc., if I should be so fortunate. After all, fathers want something that they can relate to their kids with, right?

I stumbled upon this video from Asylum (via TheForce.net) where they recently shot a video in “Public Service Announcement” style dealing with the issue of introducing one’s kids to all things Star Wars. Obviously this was done for humor’s sake, and is meant to be enjoyed on that level. However, as a geek I totally admit to having similar thoughts to these men in the video (and you know you have too!). Check it out after the jump!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

After I saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I was taken back by how dark it was and wondered just how cheerless Harry Potter’s journey has to go before things get bright again. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, we approach the beginning of the end of this decade-long journey we’ve taken with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) – and, thus far, there is no happy ending in sight (well, there’s really no ending at all, but I’ll get to that later).
