Darth Vader ROTJ

Whenever the Star Wars films get released on the latest home video format, fans have naturally come to expect various tweaks to be done to the films ever since the Special Editions of the Original Trilogy were released in 1997. They have been divided ever since on whether or not George Lucas should have even changed anything in the first place. For me personally, I fall somewhere in the middle, where I understand (and even love) some of the tweaks, and disagree with a few others.

It has already been confirmed that Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace will have a new CGI Yoda on the upcoming Blu-ray set in place of the original puppet to better align with the digital Yoda in Episodes II and III (it appears that most fans hated that particular puppet anyway), and that other minor changes have been made to help the films look better. But the most recent change that has got fans in an uproar is a new line given to Darth Vader right before he throws Emperor Palpatine down the shaft at the end of Return of the Jedi. I resisted posting this until Lucasfilm confirmed it, but today they have made it official that Vader indeed says, “Noooooo!” at that moment (much like in Revenge of the Sith but slightly different). A couple of other controversial tweaks have been confirmed as well. Hit the jump to watch clips of the changes that have leaked online.

Picture 2

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, written by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Troy Nixey, is arriving in theaters tomorrow to help kick-start the typical fall horror season a bit early. The film, starring Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes, has been getting some positive buzz, with people saying it is one of the scariest movies to be made in quite a while (Update: I saw the film on opening day and, while it’s creepy at certain points in the film, I personally did not find it to be all that scary).

But what people may not know is that the film is based on a TV movie from 1973 with the same title starring Kim Darby and Jim Hutton, which has been recently remastered for DVD. FEARnet has posted a clip from the original film (via Warner Brothers) called “Scare Her” and, just from watching this clip alone, I can definitely see why Guillermo del Toro says it is the scariest TV movie he has ever seen. Hit the jump to check it out!

Real Steel_02

The summer movie season may be just about over, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for one more potential blockbuster this year with director Shawn Levy‘s Real Steel, coming to theaters this October.

The film stars Hugh Jackman as a washed-up fighter who lives in a world where boxing has been taken over by robots. It looks like it will be a blast to watch, but at the same time contain a heartwarming father-son story at its core that will certainly help viewers invest emotionally in what’s going on. Check out the new “Main Event” featurette that just debuted for the film after the jump!

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance

The first Ghost Rider film, directed by Mark Steven Johnson and starring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider was a bit of a let down for fans of the Marvel comic. At best, I thought it was an okay movie to catch on FX on a Sunday afternoon. We all wanted it to be great, but it just fell flat in the eyes of most people.

However, directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor promise a much better and darker film with their sequel to the film, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, once again starring Cage as the Rider. Probably a bad idea to raise expectations for this film, but the first teaser for the film does get my hopes up a bit, and David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) is responsible for the story this time around. So, perhaps this could be just what the Rider needs to make a triumphant return. Check out the teaser after the jump!

Rob Zombie_sm

While I never really cared for Rob Zombie‘s music, and had no real interest in seeing his movies (although, what I have seen of his remake of Halloween seemed quite good) – he has always been an interesting, and sometimes funny person to listen to, no matter what he may be talking about.

Which is why you should tune in on August 22nd to Post Mortem with Mick Garris on FEARnet.com and On Demand (VOD) for a five-part interview with Rob Zombie where he talks about everything from his music, his movies, and even how he would love to make a Western someday (yes, a Western). The show will also premiere on FEARnet‘s cable channel on August 27th. Hit the jump for the official press release, photos, and a preview clip of the interview!

Woman in Black

The Woman in Black is a film I’ve been looking forward to ever since the first teaser debuted in April. Directed by James Watkins, the film stars Harry Potter alum Daniel Radcliffe, who plays a lawyer that makes his way to a remote village on business, but soon realizes that the town seems to be haunted by the ghost of a vengeful woman.

The trailer has that spooky, gothic horror vibe that seems to have been largely ignored these days in the world of horror films. It’s about time the genre made a comeback, and this film, along with Guillermo del Toro‘s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (which debuts August 26th), might just make it happen. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer!

Frank Darabont_Walking Dead

The cast and crew of The Walking Dead, as well as the fans of the show were stunned to receive the news that Frank Darabont would no longer be showrunner for the series. After all, he was the biggest reason the show got off the ground in the first place and became the success that it was in its first season. At the time the news was reported, no one knew the reason for his departure, and speculation suggested that maybe his feature-film background made him unaccustomed to the fast-paced momentum of producing a TV series.

As it turns out, the real reason was even simpler than that. According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC fired Darabont. Read on for the depressing details.
