It was only a matter of time.

Man of Steel, while not received that well critically, it did made a ton of money worldwide. Based on this, we knew a sequel would happen, and today it was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con, although it was not necessarily what people were expecting.

The sequel to Man of Steel will team up Superman with The Dark Knight himself – Batman. As of right now, Zack Snyder will once again direct the sequel, co-writing with David S. Goyer, and the main cast of Man of Steel is set to return, including Henry Cavill as Superman. Batman, however, has not yet been cast, and the following press release confirms that he will be a “new Batman” and a more “fresh” take on the character, supporting previous speculation that they are indeed trying to reboot the character once again (Christian Bale’s recent comments also support this).

But this is not the only news. Even though the following press release deals only with the new Superman/Batman film, Heat Vision is reporting that a film based on DC’s The Flash is also in the works for 2016, followed by the long-gestating Justice League film in 2017. No official details as of yet for these films, but you can read the press release for the Man of Steel sequel (World’s Finest, anyone?) after the jump!

Earlier this week, the announcement came from 20th Century Fox that the studio plans to release the long-rumored (and long-awaited, perhaps?) sequel to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 blockbuster Independence Day on July 3, 2015. Now, more details have emerged discussing the script and possible returning cast members, but the story surprisingly leaves out Will Smith’s character from the first film. Read on for more!

Many questionable changes have been occurring over at Lucasfilm ever since Disney officially acquired the company this past year. Just a few weeks ago, it was announced that Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series would be winding down sooner than originally intended in the wake of concentrating on new Star Wars endeavors such as Episodes VII-IX as well as a new animated series set in an era previously unexplored in TV or film. After all of this, as well as the even more recent news of LucasArts shutting down to move to a licensing model for future Star Wars games, fans are definitely worrying about whether or not the recent Disney acquisition was really a good idea in the first place.

To perhaps shed a bit of positive light on the recent changes, The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni (pictured above, next to yours truly) recently gave an interview with RebelForce Radio‘s Jason Swank and Jimmy Mac about the recent decision to cancel The Clone Wars, and the future of Filoni’s career with Lucasfilm. As it turns out, Filoni revealed that he is currently involved with developing the new Star Wars animated series mentioned above! Hit the jump to read what he had to say on the matter!

Two weeks ago, the disappointing news came that Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series would no longer air on the network, and that we would only be receiving “bonus content” to wrap up certain story arcs from the show. Thus far, there has been no word yet on just what exactly we’ll be seeing in these arcs, except for the preview clip we were shown when the announcement came, and we still do not know how we will be receiving said content.

However, TheForce.net‘s Eric Geller stated today that, according to his source, we will be receiving two different completed story arcs, which means that anything else Lucasfilm Animation (currently going through layoffs) was currently working on besides these two arcs will be scrapped. Read on for what Geller had to say on the matter.

Up until today, not much was known about Michael Bay’s Transformers 4. We already knew that it would star Mark Walberg and Jack Reynor, with Brenton Thwaites and Nicola Peltz, and that the story will pick up four years later after the battle that took place in Chicago in the previous film, Tranformers: Dark of the Moon.

Now, after a press release from the Michigan Film Office revealed today that the film has been awarded a tax incentive of $20 million to shoot in Detroit, with a projection of approximately $81 million of in-state expenditures, a nice official plot synopsis for the film has been made public as well. Hit the jump for details!

Colin Trevorrow, who made his directorial debut with the critically-acclaimed Saftey Not Guaranteed at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, is taking a giant leap into one of the biggest franchises in movie history by stepping into the director’s chair for Universal’s Jurassic Park 4, which is set to debut June 13, 2014.

While producer Kathleen Kennedy has left the project to focus on Star Wars: Episode VII, Frank Marshall is still producing along with Patrick Crowley and Executive Producer Steven Spielberg. Rise of the Planet of the Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver have written the script, and now that a director has been chosen, the project should start shooting very soon. Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm back in October last year and announced that Star Wars: Episodes VII-IX would be produced, fans of Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars have been wondering for quite some time now what the fate of the show would be. At first, people thought that maybe the show would continue on a Disney network, but after the recent announcement that the 3D re-releases of Star Wars: Episodes II & III would be postponed in order to focus all efforts on the new live-action Star Wars films, we then suspected that Disney/Lucasfilm would see fit to end The Clone Wars after it ended its fifth season since their focus obviously lies somewhere else.

As it turns out, the rumors were basically true, in that yes, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is coming to an end. However, it is simply winding down, meaning that we will get more episodes of the show in the future, which we have already known were in production for quite some time before Season Five even ended. These new episodes, however, will not air on Cartoon Network (the network only signed a five-season deal), and an announcement is imminent as to where fans can find these all-new episodes. This decision, as well as the postponement of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich’s Star Wars: Detours, have both been made in light of not only Disney/Lucasfilm’s setting their sights on the new Star Wars films, but also an entirely new animated series set in an era of the Star Wars universe previously unexplored on film or television.

Hit the jump for the official press release, as well as a video from Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni discussing the future of the show, and presenting an all-new clip from an upcoming episode!

While The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second entry in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit Trilogy, is not due out until December 13th, fans were originally only expecting to wait until the following summer for the third film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Now it seems that we will just have to wait another year for the third film, as Collider is reporting that the film is being pushed back five months to December 17th, 2014.

With this new Decemeber release date, X-Men: Days of Future Past will now have less competition, as that film is slated for There and Back Again‘s original July 18th, 2014 release date. However, other December 17, 2014 releases, such as Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, will have to go up against The Hobbit.

Something tells me that one of these films will back down and find another release date.
