Ghostbusters (2016)

Call me crazy, but this looks really good.

The first trailer for Paul Feig’s long-awaited reboot (or is it?) of the Ghostbusters franchise is finally here after many fits and starts over the last decade. Simply titled Ghostbusters, the film stars Kristin Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon taking over for the original cast from 30 years ago, battling the paranormal in the great city of New York (what a town!).

Little is known about the plot outside of this trailer, and unfortunately the original surviving cast was never confirmed to reprise their original roles from the first two films, and may just be playing different characters instead. Last we’ve heard, this is apparently not Ghostbusters 3 but rather a total reboot – although the trailer is misleading if Feig is indeed starting over here. But in the meantime, check out the new cast in action as they answer the call to chase ghosts, and get a peek at Slimer!

Official Synopsis:

Thirty years after the original film took the world by storm, Ghostbusters is back and fully rebooted for a new generation.  Director Paul Feig combines all the paranormal fighting elements that made the original franchise so beloved with a cast of new characters, played by the funniest actors working today.  Get ready to watch them save the world this summer!

As a life-long fan of the first two films, it is admittedly very difficult to imagine anyone other than the original cast chasing ghosts in a Ghostbusters movie. However, I am also a big fan of the new cast here, and totally believe they can bring a fresh new take on the franchise. They’re a very talent group of comedians/actors that undoubtedly will make us laugh in this new chapter. And besides, the original cast is 30 years older, so it is sort of beyond them at this point to chase ghosts like they’re all 30 again.

I like what I’m seeing so far!

Ghostbusters, written/directed by Paul Feig and co-written by Katie Dippold, stars Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Slimer. The film hits theaters July 15th!
