The trailers just don’t stop, do they? Well, at least not during the holiday season anyway.

After seeing the first trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, any trailer that premieres right afterward sure has quite a bit to compete against. However, Ridley Scott’s long-awaited return to science fiction film-making is a pretty big deal as well, so what better act to follow The Hobbit trailer than a teaser for Prometheus – Scott’s “kinda-sorta” prequel to his original 1979 Alien film? It just popped up online over at Apple today, following a series of 30-second behind the scenes clips that were released over the last few days. Hit the jump to watch the teaser and the clips!

Official Synopsis:

Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

It is definitely clear from the teaser that this film takes place in the Alien universe, but that it doesn’t directly involve the alien creatures we’re used to seeing. I especially love how they tied this film in with Alien with the title slowing forming on screen in the same style that the original Alien film used. This is all very cool indeed. Cannot wait for June!

Prometheus, directed by Ridley Scott, stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron. It is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide in 3-D June 8, 2012.
