I doubt it. I really do. Sci-Fi TV.au is reporting that pre-production is gearing up for the live-action Star Wars TV series to be shot in Australia and that it is set to debut in 2010.

The report says that they are recruiting Aussie writers, including people that have written for Love My Way and Secret Life of Us who have been approached by Rick McCallum, Lucas’ Producer.

George Lucas is heavily involved in The Clone Wars animated series, as well as the live-action series and another animated Star Wars series. Lucas is also busy with Red Tails and possibly Indiana Jones 5.

I know that they are gathering writers and getting screenplays. And Australian writers seem likely. But 2010? REALLY? I’m thinking no sooner than 2011 or 2012.

The live-action TV series is set to take place between Star Wars Episodes III and IV during the beginnings of the Empire, and deal with characters we’ve never seen before as well as characters that played minor roles in the movies. Rick McCallum has said that Boba Fett “will be an instrumental part of the series.”

But don’t expect a live-action Star Wars TV series next year. Click here for the rest of the article.

Update: SciFiNow.co.uk is saying that the first writer has been selected for the live-action Star Wars TV series:

“Currently, the favourite to be announced as one the TV series’ scribes is Australian TV producer and writer, John Edwards. If appointed, Edwards, who has been responsible for a clutch of successful domestic shows, including Out Of The Blue and Fireflies, will likely find himself under intense scrutiny from the most dedicated fanbase in the world.”
