Rambo fans are sure to cheer with this news. Variety is reporting that Rambo 5 has been given the green-light by Nu Image/Millennium Films!
Variety summarizes the film’s plot as follows:
“The upcoming project’s storyline revolves around Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border.”
Sylvester Stallone has indicated in previous interviews that he wanted to do another one, but take it into a slightly different genre. Some speculated that it might go into the sci-fi or comic-book realm, but judging from the above description of the plot it looks like it will pretty much be your typical Rambo flick.
Personally this makes me very happy. I have enjoyed every Rambo movie thus far, with Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo, the fourth and most recent entry in the franchise, being my two favorites.

According to Aint It Cool News, Sylvester Stallone has stated that the plot Variety revealed is inaccurate. Sly says it is set in the Pacific Northwest, with a U.S. Military installation experimenting with turning elite soldiers into genetically enhanced instinctual killers that “have no qualms about taking life” and Rambo will be assigned with a Black Ops team to hunt down one of these killers.
So it appears that Sly’s previous remarks a year ago about taking it into a slightly different genre were accurate. Comparisons to “Universal Solider” and “Predator” have been mentioned by fans in talk back forums and such, although Sly says this is not like those films.
I’m sort of on the fence about the plot description, as it is completely different from any of the previous Rambo movies. At the same time, this could make it seriously awesome. What would it be like for John Rambo to hunt down a genetically enhanced creature? If they keep it realistic enough to where the audience can buy it as a scenario that could happen in real life (in theory, anyway), then perhaps this could be something that fits right in with the Rambo series.
