A new trailer has debuted online today that first premiered at the 2011 Spike Scream Awards recently for the upcoming gothic horror film, The Woman in Black. The film stars Harry Potter alum, Daniel Radcliffe, who plays a lawyer that makes his way to a remote village on business and discovers that the town is being haunted by the ghost of a vengeful woman.

The trailer is very much like the UK trailer that debuted recently, and perhaps isn’t as creepy as the first full U.S. trailer, but it is definitely still worth a look nonetheless. It is really too bad the film isn’t coming out in time for Halloween, since it looks like it might just be one of the classiest horror films to come our way in quite a long time. Matt Reeves, director of Cloverfield and Let Me In, has been hired by Warner Brothers to direct the film version of The Twilight Zone that Appian Way, Leonardo Dicaprio’s film company, has been working to get off the ground for a few years now. Apparently, other well-known directors were on Warner Brothers’ shortlist to direct, such as Christopher Nolan and Alfonso Cuaron, but Reeves apparently ended up being their final choice. Dicaprio, as well as his Appian Way partners, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Michael Ireland, are set to produce, with Warner Bros’ Matt Cherniss overseeing the project as executive producer. John Carptenter’s 1982 film, The Thing (a remake of the 1950s classic, The Thing from Another World) has almost become as much of a cult classic as his much-beloved film, Halloween (from my point of view, it is arguably a better film altogether). It holds up today as much as it did 29 years ago, still scaring the pants off of most everyone who watches it. It has gone down in film history as one of the best sci-fi thrillers of all time, right up there with Ridley Scott’s Alien.

So the idea of making a prequel – showing us just what exactly happened to that devastated Norwegian base camp at the beginning of Carpenter’s film – is something that has been met with both excitement, as well as skepticism from fans of the original 1982 film. Even though it could be intriguing to see how it all went down, what’s the point, really? We basically already know what happened, so what possible reason is there to go back and show it? Furthermore, how could it possibly live up to the original? While these questions can really only be answered by experiencing the film for yourself, I can say that there’s more to it than you might think – although not much.

Last March, Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace would be converted to 3-D and released on February 10th, 2012 (providing that it proves successful enough at the box office, the remaining films will also be converted to 3-D and released some time later). Starting next week on October 21st, Star Wars fans can check out a glimpse of it in a new trailer attached to the 3-D release of Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers!

Also, while it is not really news to people who watched Season 3 of Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it has been made truly official that Darth Maul, the Sith apprentice that supposedly met his demise at the hand of Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace, will be resurrected for an appearance in The Clone Wars next spring! It’s all been leading to this. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, etc., will all join forces to defeat Thor’s brother, Loki as he tries to destroy the world in Marvel’s The Avengers in May of next year. Shawn Levy’s Real Steel is a science-fiction film loosely based on a Richard Matheson story about “Robot Boxing,” which, of course, immediately conjures up cheesy thoughts of “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots” in the mind of the typical cynical movie-goer. It simply cannot be helped, since the film’s movie trailers magnificently showcase exciting boxing scenes between various mega droids (which even look like souped-up versions of the robots from the classic Mattel game) that overshadow anything we see dealing with the human characters in the previews.

But movie trailers can often be misleading. Underneath it all, this film is a whole lot more than just robots beating the living metal out of each other. At its core lies a true underdog story of a washed up boxer (played by Hugh Jackman) finding his way back to the ring, as well as his estranged son, through a single commonality. It is a classic story formula, repackaged with a bit of sci-fi flare, designed to hit every sappy, heartwarming note that a story of its kind is meant to hit – and it works.  “Rocky Socking Robots” might be a better way to look at it.

Last March, it was reported that Stuart Beattie (co-writer of 30 Days of Night and the Pirates of the Caribbean films) was chosen to direct the upcoming film adaptation of Underworld writer Kevin Grevioux‘s graphic novel, I, Frankenstein – which is set to start filming in January. At the time, one big question remained: Just who exactly would play the Frankenstein Monster?

Today, Deadline is reporting that Aaron Eckhart, who famously played Harvey Dent/Two-Face in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, has indeed landed the title role! Read on for more info!

Are you the type of person who absolutely loves movies series like Star Wars or James Bond and have always wanted to do a marathon of sorts but never had the will power to sit through so many films in a row? Well, as it turns out, there is a group of movie marathoners (about 20-30 people) based out of L.A. that have sat through 4 different movies series thus far, during which they film the whole marathon, rate the films on a scale of 0-10, and neatly present it all in time-lapsed video.

So far, they have gone through the James Bond, Star Wars, Star Trek and Batman series. Watching these guys in time-lapsed video going through so many series makes my Lord of the Rings marathons look like a walk in the park! Check out these amazing videos after the jump!

A new clip has emerged for director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s The Thing that helps establish the fact that it is a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 film, also called The Thing. The scene shows that the American character, Kate Lloyd (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) struggles with the language barrier between her and the Norwegian scientists she meets up with in Antarctica – the same Norwegians whose maimed corpses we see at the beginning of Carpenter’s film. No gore or close-ups of “The Thing” here, but it is an intense scene nonetheless and I think the quality of the acting here shows that the film is aiming for more than just cheap thrills. It looks like director Kevin Tancharoen‘s Mortal Kombat web series has paid off. It appears that his first unauthorized short film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, as well as its corresponding web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, inadvertently acted as a kind of audition for directing a feature film reboot of the franchise (which first started out as a video game series, followed by a couple of disappointing feature films in the 90s). News hit yesterday via Deadline that New Line Cinema loved what Kevin Tancharoen did with the series, and ended up recruiting him, along with the original writer of the short film and web series, Oren Uziel for a new feature film.
