After Guillermo del Toro dropped out of directing The Hobbit films on May 30th, everyone has been wondering who will step up to direct. Yesterday, it was reported that David Yates (the Harry Potter films) is interested. Today, Deadline reports that not only is Yates interested, but also David Dobkin (Fred Claus, Wedding Crashers) and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour 3, X-Men: The Last Stand).
At this point, no one has been given the job. However, according to Deadline, MGM and Warner Brothers are currently trying to convince Producer Peter Jackson to step in to direct the two films.

Originally, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot company (Lost, Star Trek) had the rights to adapt The Dark Tower book series by Stephen King into a TV series. However, they ended up deciding that they would not be able to do the books justice and no longer have the rights to make it.
Now, both Heat Vision and Deadline are reporting that Imagine Entertainment and Weed Road Productions have obtained the rights, and that Ron Howard would direct with Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman producing along with Stephen King.

Back in November, it was reported that Roland Emmerich has been cooking up some ideas for not only one sequel to his 1996 blockbuster hit Independence Day, but rather two sequels that would take place over a decade later after the first film.
Well, according to IESB, Will Smith is apparently locked in for the sequels. Although it has not been officially announced, IESB has been known for being quite accurate.
