Blair Witch Project

Yup, Fall is just around the corner. For many, this means enjoying cooler weather, taking in breathtaking colorful landscapes, going on hay rides, consuming cider and donuts in mass quantities, etc. The season definitely has its fair share of traditional “harvest-centric” activities. But, of course, Halloween is the Fall event people tend to look forward to the most – which, for movie fans, means watching as many horror films as humanly possible through October 31st.

In the spirit of the upcoming horror movie season, the guys from Millennium fan site Back to Frank Black have sent over a recommendation for a new book called Horror Films of the 1990s, written by their good friend and award-winning author John Kenneth Muir. The book is a followup to his other two horror movie books – Horror Films of the 1970s and Horror Films of the 1980s – consisting of 700 pages analyzing over 300 horror films between 1990 and 1999. If you want to brush up on your knowledge of the horror genre as it existed in the 90s, this is definitely the book to get. Read on to find out a bit more about the book and author John Kenneth Muir!

Nike BTTF Sneakers_02

A little over a year ago, news broke that Nike would be developing the futuristic self-lacing sneakers that Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future Part II, but it was not known at the time when they’d be made available. Well, as of yesterday, the limited edition shoes, called the “Nike Mag” sneakers, officially went up for auction at nikemag.ebay.com to benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation. However, while Nike filed the Automatic Lacing System patent back in 2009, it appears the current Nike Mag shoes do not actually lace themselves… yet.

Most likely, you won’t be able to afford them, as the price for them is well over $5,000 at this point. But, after the jump, you can read the official press release for the event, as well as watch a great Nike Mag promotional video directed by Back to the Future producer Frank Marshall - which stars NBA Basketball player Kevin Durant, SNL’s Bill Hader, and of course Christopher Lloyd reprising the role of Doctor Emmett L. Brown! The video hints that perhaps the self-lacing mechanism could be put into effect by 2015, which is, of course, when Marty McFly actually obtains the shoes in Back to the Future Part II.

starwars-blu-ray-banner

Fanboys around the world can whine all they want every time George Lucas tweaks his Star Wars films. Heck, even I whined a bit last week about Darth Vader’s new dialogue in Return of the Jedi. But, if you really do love Star Wars, is that really going to stop you from experiencing the Saga remastered in High Definition picture and sound in the comfort of your own home when it arrives on Blu-ray next week? Not likely. If you’re a fan, you’ll buy it. We all know you will.

Also, the mere fact that the Star Wars Saga Setcontains over 40 hours of great bonus features will make it even harder to resist. In order to whet your appetite even more, a full list of all 45 deleted scenes that will be included with the set (most of which have never been seen by the general public) has finally made its way online, and you can check it below!

Darth Vader ROTJ

Whenever the Star Wars films get released on the latest home video format, fans have naturally come to expect various tweaks to be done to the films ever since the Special Editions of the Original Trilogy were released in 1997. They have been divided ever since on whether or not George Lucas should have even changed anything in the first place. For me personally, I fall somewhere in the middle, where I understand (and even love) some of the tweaks, and disagree with a few others.

It has already been confirmed that Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace will have a new CGI Yoda on the upcoming Blu-ray set in place of the original puppet to better align with the digital Yoda in Episodes II and III (it appears that most fans hated that particular puppet anyway), and that other minor changes have been made to help the films look better. But the most recent change that has got fans in an uproar is a new line given to Darth Vader right before he throws Emperor Palpatine down the shaft at the end of Return of the Jedi. I resisted posting this until Lucasfilm confirmed it, but today they have made it official that Vader indeed says, “Noooooo!” at that moment (much like in Revenge of the Sith but slightly different). A couple of other controversial tweaks have been confirmed as well. Hit the jump to watch clips of the changes that have leaked online.

Rob Zombie_sm

While I never really cared for Rob Zombie’s music, and had no real interest in seeing his movies (although, what I have seen of his remake of Halloween seemed quite good) – he has always been an interesting, and sometimes funny person to listen to, no matter what he may be talking about.

Which is why you should tune in on August 22nd to Post Mortem with Mick Garris on FEARnet.com and On Demand (VOD) for a five-part interview with Rob Zombie where he talks about everything from his music, his movies, and even how he would love to make a Western someday (yes, a Western). The show will also premiere on FEARnet’s cable channel on August 27th. Hit the jump for the official press release, photos, and a preview clip of the interview!

Frank Darabont_Walking Dead

The cast and crew of The Walking Dead, as well as the fans of the show were stunned to receive the news that Frank Darabont would no longer be showrunner for the series. After all, he was the biggest reason the show got off the ground in the first place and became the success that it was in its first season. At the time the news was reported, no one knew the reason for his departure, and speculation suggested that maybe his feature-film background made him unaccustomed to the fast-paced momentum of producing a TV series.

As it turns out, the real reason was even simpler than that. According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC fired Darabont. Read on for the depressing details.

Frankenstein Monster

Everyone in Hollywood seems to be jumping on the Frankenstein bandwagon these days. All sorts of projects are currently being developed that are based on or inspired by Mary Shelley’s classic monster tale. Not only has Guillermo del Toro expressed for quite some time that he wants to re-imaginine the story for film, but there are also two prequels in the works (Timur Bekmambetov’s The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein and Matt ReevesThis Dark Endeavor), an adaptation of Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein: Prodigal Son, and Lakeshore’s film noir take on the Monster called I, Frankenstein. Of course, let’s not forget Tim Burton’s stop-motion feature Frankenweenie that is currently in production, as well as an as-of-yet untitled adaptation of Frankenstein from 20th Century Fox. People just can’t get enough of the monster, and honestly, I don’t blame them, since I am a HUGE fan myself and will probably watch anything with “Frankenstein” in the title.

But is it all too much? NBC doesn’t seem to think so, as they are also currently planning an adaptation of Frankenstein for TV. Russel Friend and Garret Lerner (House, Smallville) have been hired to write a pilot script for a series that takes the story to a present-day setting. No further details have been revealed. It’ll sure be interesting to see it alongside all the rest of the Frankenstein stories being developed. But, while it is definitely a great time for Frankenstein’s Monster to reemerge, I just hope people don’t get worn out on it. Stay tuned as more details develop!
