Last year marked the long-awaited release of George Lucas’ six Star Wars films on Blu-ray. Now, Lucas’ other hit franchise will be making its way to the blu-ray format in The Complete Indiana Jones Blu-ray Collection, featuring all four Steven Spielberg-directed films presented in high definition picture and sound. Also included with the release will be a “best of” collection of documentaries, interviews and featurettes (presumably from The Adventures of Indiana Jones DVD set), as well as “a few new surprises,” according to the official press release. Marvel has a lot riding on the success of their latest comic book film adaptation, The Avengers – not in terms of box office results (we all know it’ll make loads of cash), but rather in the execution of the story and its characters. They have done a great job with Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor and Captain America in their own individual films, but how well will they work together in one film? Can it ever live up to the hype surrounding it, considering that this is the film that all the other Marvel films (excluding the X-Men films) have been building up to since 2008?
The latest trailer for The Avengers definitely shows us that it has the potential to deliver in these areas, as well as the action and special effects aspects of a typical blockbuster. Most of all, it looks like it’ll be incredibly fun to watch, which is probably just as important as getting the story and characters right. Hit the jump to check it out!

One of the most anticipated movies of 2012, Prometheus is not only a film that marks director Ridley Scott’s long-awaited return to science fiction, but is also one in which the plot is loosely related to Scott’s first sci-fi film, Alien.
One of the ways in which Prometheus relates to the Alien franchise is through the character of Peter Weyland, played by Guy Pearce, who is the CEO of the Weyland Corporation that later becomes the Weyland-Yutani Company we hear about in the Alien films. In a clever viral marketing video for the film, Weyland gives a TED talk in the year 2023 (click here to learn more about TED), which is a few years prior to when Prometheus takes place. The video is a great primer for Prometheus, not to mention total geek sustenance for those familiar with the Alien films. Check it out below!

The final trailer for Disney’s John Carter has hit the web over at Apple today, and it definitely shows us just how big and epic this film promises to be. It is unfortunate, however, that Disney is more focused on selling the epic scope of the film than the plot itself. Those who are unfamiliar with the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel the film is based off of (John Carter of Mars) won’t really get a clear idea what the film is about just by watching the trailers. I am not quite sure why Disney has chosen this route, since it is completely possible to show off visuals and still give us something to hang on to in terms of story. I am all for avoiding spoilers, but I always think it is necessary to reveal some story details in the trailers – at least more than the John Carter trailers have given.
Anyhow, you can check out the final trailer below, which highlights the arena battle we’ve seen in previous trailers (the one that looks identical to the battle in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones).

Last week, we got the chance to go behind the scenes with voice actor Sam Witwer (Starkiller from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed), who voices the resurrected Darth Maul in the four-part Season Four finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which begins tonight at 8/7c. It gave us a great tease of what’s to come when his character returns in the March 9th episode of the story arc.
Now, USA Today has a great trailer online showcasing much more of Maul, as well as his brother, Savage Opress, the Nightsisters, Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress and more! If you thought Season Three’s Nightsisters trilogy was great, wait until you see the trailer for this! Be forewarned though, as the trailer appears to spoil exactly how Darth Maul is now walking around (which I have to say is totally awesome). Hit the jump to watch!

I was extremely excited for Louis Leterrier’s remake of Clash of the Titans when previews started making their way online over two years ago. But, when the film finally hit theaters, I found it to be somewhat underwhelming. It was okay, but it lacked a certain spark that could have made it something special. That, and the fight with the Kraken was way too short. However, the film made more than enough money to warrant a sequel, titled Wrath of the Titans, which hits theaters March 30th.
The film brings back Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes as Zeus and Hades, respectively, and Sam Worthington returns as the demigod Perseus. Admittedly, the trailer makes the film look incredible, featuring over-the-top action scenes filled with mythological monsters running amok. But trailers for the first film made it look incredible as well, and we all know how that turned out. Thankfully, the sequel is directed by Jonathan Liebesman, who directed Battle: Los Angeles (a movie I am quite fond of), so maybe it has a chance to achieve that spark I’m looking for. Hit the jump to check out the trailer!

For over a decade now, Star Wars fans thought they knew everything there is to know about Darth Sidious’ Sith apprentice, Darth Maul. However, during Season 3 of Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it was revealed that not only did Maul have a brother (Savage Opress), but that he also somehow survived being cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi during the climactic lightsaber battle at the end of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (click here to read about how this might be possible).
It was announced last October that Darth Maul will be returning toward the end of the current season of The Clone Wars to reveal how he survived and what he’s been up to since The Phantom Menace. Now, MTV Geek has an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at voice actors Clancy Brown and Sam Witwer voicing Savage Opress and Darth Maul, as well as some footage showcasing Maul in animated form. Don’t worry though, as the footage only shows the top half of Maul and doesn’t spoil how exactly he gets around with no legs. Hit the jump to watch!

Many of you are probably aware that every year during the Super Bowl, new TV spots air for some of the year’s most anticipated movies. Last year proved to be one of the best in terms of previews of films with tons of hype behind them, like Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
With this year, however, I feel it needs to be said that it was disappointing that there were not as many trailers for highly anticipated films. There were a few, like The Avengers, John Carter, and The Hunger Games. But somehow, previews for lesser-hyped films such as The Lorax, Act of Valor and The Dictator made their way into the Super Bowl time slot. What’s more (and let’s be honest), even big-budget special effects movies like Battleship and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which also earned TV spots during the game, aren’t really all that anticipated.
There are much bigger, more anticipated releases out there – such as Men in Black 3, Dark Shadows, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises or Prometheus – that I am positive people would have much preferred to see previews for. Sure, the films I just knocked for taking up the time slot might end up being great, but it is surprising which previews ended up airing. In my opinion, it made watching the Super Bowl commercials a bit less exciting than it should have been (although, to be fair, they did air an ad for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3-D, which was totally cool by me).
Anyhow hit the jump to watch the Super Bowl TV spots, including an extended, one-minute version of the TV spot for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers!

Director James Watkins’ latest film, The Woman in Black, is the type of horror film that only comes along once in a blue moon. Moviegoers have not really been properly treated to gothic horror on the silver screen since the days when Universal, Hammer, and American International Pictures made it commonplace back in the 1930s-70s. Nothing since then has been done quite as effectively – although films like The Others and The Wolfman remake had their moments. Gothic horror is simply an all but forgotten genre that barely gets touched in modern-day film-making.
So, it really comes as no surprise that the recent reemergence of Hammer Film Productions would lead to the creation of such an effective film that harkens back to that golden age of horror when it was all about ominous warning and creepy atmosphere – and it pleases this reviewer to say that it is truly a warm welcome back to the genre.
