A couple of weeks ago, IESB reported that George Lucas was working on producing another Star Wars animated series, with “Squishies” being the working title, that would apparently be aimed at pre-school to kindergarten aged children.

Well, Lucasfilm has let the cat out of the bag on this new take on our favorite galaxy far, far away, setting the records straight on those reports (mostly). Read on!

Here’s what StarWars.com had to say on the matter:

“Lucasfilm Animation is currently developing an all-new animated Star Wars series, focusing its efforts on the comedic aspects of the “galaxy far, far away.” Featuring creative involvement from Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, creators and executive producers of the Emmy and Annie Award-winning Robot Chicken, as well as writing from The Daily Show‘s Brendan Hay, the series will look at the Saga’s characters with a playful and irreverent tone. The series will be produced by Daytime Emmy and Gemini Award-winner Jennifer Hill (The Backyardigans), and directed by Emmy-nominated Todd Grimes (Back at the Barnyard).”

The article goes on to say that it would be about what Star Wars characters do when they’re not off saving the universe, and are in the midst of “normal, mundane everyday problems.” It also goes on to say that it will “appeal to all ages,” rather than to just the pre-school to kindergarten age groups as what was originally claimed by IESB.

The article does not, however, confirm or deny IESB‘s report of the series being called “Squishies,” or it being based on the popular “Galactic Heroes” toy line. As far as the title goes, it was reported that “Squishies” is a working title, so it may not actually be the real title. Only time will tell.

There is no word on how “canon” this series will be to the Star Wars universe. My impression is that since it is a comedy about minor situations that don’t have much significance, I don’t think it will be much cause for alarm for all those die-hard Yoda-heads out there that are worried about continuity, whether it is canon or not.

Lastly, there is no confirmation if this will be 2D traditional animation, or CG-animation like The Clone Wars animated series currently on Cartoon Network. Personally, I wish there were more 2D cartoons out there. I think it lends itself quite well to comedy and would work quite well for this new series.

Since the creators of Robot Chicken are involved, I am now highly anticipating this new series, whether it is for little kids or all age groups. They have such a great sense of humor that I connect with, and their brief description in this article sounds quite funny, so I am totally in!

My only question now is, when in the world is the Live-Action Star Wars series coming?!!!
