The Mirage Group, the company who owns the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property (happy 25th anniversary, by the way!), has announced that they are moving forward with a new live-action reboot of the franchise set to be released in 2011! It will focus on the origins of the Turtles and will “remain true to the spirit of the original comicbooks,” says Peter Laird, one of the creators of the comics. He also added that the movie “may employ face replacement technology, which would allow the turtles to be much more expressive,” implying that the characters may not be entirely digital creations.

Personally, I loved the original movie from 1990. I still love it. The sequel, Secret of the Ooze, not nearly as much, but I love it for nostagia’s sake (NINJA! NINJA, RAP!). As far as the third one, well, I won’t even go there. But I still think the original holds up quite well. With modern digital effects, the possibility of a new, live-action movie is exciting! This could very well be the Ninja Turtles movie fans have been waiting for.
